President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday submitted a ₦70,000 Minimum Wage bill to the House of Representatives for consideration and passage into law.
The bill aims to formalize the ₦70,000 minimum wage recently agreed upon by organized labor, the private sector, and the federal government following extensive negotiations.
The President’s letter, read on the House floor by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, outlines provisions for a new national minimum wage and establishes the legal framework for its implementation.
Tinubu urged lawmakers to expedite the bill’s passage to ensure immediate benefits for Nigerian workers.
In a separate letter, the President requested an amendment to the Nigeria Police Act under Section 58 of the 1999 Constitution. This amendment seeks to modify provisions regarding the appointment and tenure of the Inspector General of Police.
