Protests Prompt Emergency APC NWC Meeting with All State Chairmen

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has summoned an emergency meeting with all its state chairmen to discuss strategies to prevent planned nationwide protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The decision was made during the 153rd NWC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja, according to the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru. The NWC expressed its support for the president’s appeal to those planning protests, urging them to trust in the government’s ability to address the nation’s economic challenges.

Basiru stated, “The NWC also noted that since coming on board in 2023, the government has encountered numerous challenges, particularly economic ones. Mr. President is gradually implementing programs and policies that will, in the near future, bring relief to the citizens.”

He added that many of the economic issues are global in nature and require careful deliberation to resolve. The NWC also acknowledged that some concerns raised by the protesters are political, while others involve constitutional matters currently being addressed by the National Assembly.

The meeting called on those planning protests to trust in the president’s efforts to improve the economy and assured Nigerians that the challenges will eventually be overcome. It also urged parents and responsible citizens to monitor their children’s activities to prevent them from being exploited to cause unrest.

Furthermore, the NWC has called for an emergency meeting of APC chairmen from all 36 states to continue discussions.
