Zamfara Govt Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention on Gotawa Dam, Fed Roads Upgrade

The Zamfara state government has urged the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to undertake several key infrastructure projects in the state. These projects include the construction of the Gotawa earth dam in the Zurmi and Shinkafi regions, as well as the Kwatarkwashi—Rawayya bypass, and the Anka—Bagega—Mutunji federal roads.

Governor Dauda Lawal made this appeal during a Town Hall Meeting with stakeholders, organized by the Office of the Personal Assistant to President Tinubu on Constituency Affairs, Hon. Khadijat Omotayo Kareem, on Wednesday in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital.

In a statement issued to The Spectacles by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, it was noted that the Governor, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Project Implementation, Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi, expressed concern over the lack of ongoing federal projects in Zamfara, apart from the Zaria—Sokoto road initiated under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He highlighted that Zamfara provided the highest number of votes for Tinubu in the last presidential election compared to any other state in the northwest.

Governor Lawal also emphasized the urgent need for federal efforts to address the pressing insecurity issues in Zamfara, which he identified as the state’s top priority.

Earlier in the week, while receiving Ms. Khadijat and her entourage, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, pledged on behalf of the state government to compile and submit a list of demands to President Tinubu.

“The people of Zamfara have spoken, and you have heard them loud and clear. The Zamfara state government aligns with the position of its people here,” stated Nakwada. He highlighted the absence of new federal projects in Zamfara under the current administration, except for the Zaria—Sokoto road project from the previous administration.

“For instance, the federal government has constructed numerous bypass roads in other states like Kaduna and Kano. Based on that, we proposed the construction of a bypass road from Kwatarkwashi to Rawayya to link up with the Gusau—Kaura Namoda road. We also submitted a proposal for the construction of a federal road starting from Anka—Bagega—Mutunji.

“We equally made submissions for the construction of Gotawa Dam, which has the potential to support 18,000 hectares of land for dry season farming and generate up to 100 Megawatts of electricity,” the commissioner said on behalf of Governor Lawal.

Hon. Khadijat Omotayo, the PA to President Tinubu on Constituency Affairs, expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Zamfara State Government. She assured that all submissions would be communicated to President Tinubu, reaffirming that Zamfara state remains a priority for the federal administration.
