APC Begs Nigerians to Avoid Nationwide Protest Over Economic Hardship

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Nigerians to refrain from participating in a planned protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, scheduled for August 1-10.

During a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, following the NWC’s 153rd meeting, the party’s national secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, made an appeal to the public. He urged Nigerians to have faith in the government’s ability to address the country’s economic challenges.

“The APC, alongside President Tinubu, passionately appeals to those planning protests to shelve their plans and place their confidence in the government’s efforts to tackle the nation’s economic issues,” Basiru stated.

He acknowledged that the Tinubu administration, which took office in 2023, inherited numerous challenges, particularly in the economic sector. Basiru emphasized that the president is gradually implementing programs and policies designed to provide relief and succor to citizens in the near future.

Basiru also highlighted that many of the economic challenges confronting the country are global issues that require thorough deliberation to resolve. He noted that some concerns raised by those planning the protest are political, while others are constitutional and can only be addressed through ongoing amendments at the National Assembly.

He urged those planning the protests to trust in Tinubu’s unwavering efforts to reposition the economy, assuring that the current hardships would soon be alleviated.

Basiru also called on parents and well-meaning Nigerians to monitor the activities of their children and wards to prevent them from being used to incite chaos. He mentioned that the party’s chairmen in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had been summoned for an emergency meeting to further discuss the issue.
