EndBadGovernance Protests: Organisers Unveil 15 Demands

The organizers of the upcoming nationwide protest, scheduled from August 1 to August 10, have announced key demands directed at President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to NewsNow, the nation’s economic situation is driving citizens, particularly the younger generation, to plan a large-scale demonstration. Despite government attempts to halt the movement, the youth are determined to carry out the protest across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Omoyele Sowore, a former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, is one of the protest organizers. On Wednesday, he discussed the demands with a NewsNow correspondent.

The protest, dubbed “Days of Rage” and “EndBadGovernance,” aims to highlight the economic issues plaguing the country.

The protesters’ demands include:

1. Reinstatement of fuel subsidies.
2. Resolution of issues in the electricity sector.
3. Release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from the custody of the Department of Security Services.
4. Introduction of diaspora voting in general elections.
5. Adoption of a new people-driven constitution for Nigeria, following an independent National Conference and National Referendum.
6. Increased spending on education.
7. Financial support for Nigerian students instead of debts.
8. Free, compulsory education for all children in Nigeria.
9. Raising the minimum wage for Nigerian workers to at least ₦250,000 per month.
10. Demilitarization of the South East.
11. Unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all political and ENDSARS detainees.
12. Restructuring Nigeria to support diversity and regional development.
13. Elimination of corruption in the subsidy system.
14. Investigations into past and present Nigerian leaders who have embezzled public funds.
15. Reforms in security agencies to prevent human rights violations.

Additionally, the demands call for significant investments in public works and industrialization to create jobs for the youth, transparent reconstitution of INEC, and judicial reforms to ensure citizens’ access to justice.
