Nigerian Women Plan Protest at National Assembly Naked

Following the removal of Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume from his positions as Chief Whip and Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, supporters and women’s groups from the Southern Borno Senatorial District are planning a peaceful, albeit controversial, protest at the National Assembly. Their grievances stem from Senator Ndume’s dismissal, which they attribute to his outspoken criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, citing issues of hunger and insecurity.

Senator Ndume’s coordinators from the 101 wards across nine local government areas, including Biu, Hawul, Bayo, Shani, Gwoza, Chibok, Kwaya Kusar, Askira-Uba, and Damboa, gathered at his residence in Maiduguri on Thursday to express their solidarity.

Mrs. Mada Musa, spokesperson for the aggrieved women, criticized the government’s actions. She lamented that Ndume, who recently voiced the public’s concerns on Arise TV, has been punished instead of the government addressing the pressing issues of economic hardship and security threats. Musa called for Ndume to continue advocating for the people’s plight, mentioning other critical issues like corruption and unemployment.

Pastor Moni Mushari, representing the Ward Coordinators, cited a biblical passage, John 8:31, in support of Ndume’s truth-telling. He affirmed the unwavering support of all 101 coordinators for the senator.

Senator Ndume expressed gratitude for the show of support and urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding. He encouraged them to engage in farming and business, promising continued agricultural assistance.

Ndume acknowledged the recent approval of a N70,000 minimum wage by President Tinubu but highlighted that this amount is insufficient given the high cost of living. He also addressed calls for him to leave the APC, affirming his commitment to the party and aligning with Governor Babagana Zulum.

Ndume urged his constituents to continue supporting Governor Zulum’s administration to ensure the ongoing development and prosperity of their region.
