The House of Representatives has threatened to call for the dismissal of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), if he continues to obstruct the smooth operation of the Dangote Refinery.
Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman of the House, made this announcement on Saturday during a briefing with journalists in Abuja.
Agbese also stated that the legislative body has already expressed support for the dismissal of Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). According to the All Progressives Congress legislator, both the NNPCL and NMDPRA have shown intentions to undermine the Dangote Refinery.
“We have observed numerous demarketing campaigns aimed at discrediting the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, causing panic in the country,” Agbese said. “It is on record that the House directed the President to sack the NMDPRA’s CEO. The House of Representatives will not hesitate to call for the dismissal of Mele Kyari if the attempts to destroy this national asset do not cease immediately.”
This development follows an assessment visit to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company in Lagos by a delegation led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, less than two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, the House Special Committee investigating oil theft and losses is currently questioning stakeholders in the oil sector and has pledged to conduct its investigation without fear or favor.
