MTN Shuts Offices Nationwide Following SIM Blocking Outrage

Telecommunications giant MTN has closed all its stores and service centers across Nigeria in response to a widespread public outcry that escalated into the destruction of one of its facilities on Monday.

According to the report, the uproar began when MTN barred the lines of several subscribers on Sunday due to discrepancies between their National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM registration details. This action left many subscribers unable to access essential communication services, sparking widespread anger and frustration.

The situation reached a boiling point when a video circulating on social media captured a mob dismantling a barricade fence outside the MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos. The video shows the crowd’s growing hostility and the subsequent damage to the facility, reflecting the severe backlash against the network provider’s actions.

MTN has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident or outline the steps it will take to address the affected subscribers’ concerns.

Further details are expected as the situation develops.
