Dr. Isa El-Buba, General Overseer and President of El-Buba Outreach Ministries International, EBOMI, on Thursday, personally led a hunger protest in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
El-Buba, also the national coordinator of Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria, IBBN, assured that the protest would remain peaceful throughout.
Protesters gathered at the Plateau Secretariat overhead bridge as early as 6 am and marched towards the Old Airport Roundabout in Jos.
Addressing the crowd, El-Buba highlighted the suffering of Nigerians and urged President Bola Tinubu to reverse “anti-people policies,” specifically mentioning the removal of fuel subsidies, high electricity tariffs, and the high cost of living as major concerns.
Security operatives were present to ensure the protest remained peaceful, according to the report.
Despite the Plateau State government’s earlier rejection of the protest due to security concerns, the demonstrators were undeterred.
Additional protesters gathered at the British American roundabout in Jos, with many shops closed in solidarity with the protest.
The peaceful nature of the demonstration was a relief to many who had feared potential violence. As of 11 am, no incidents of violence had been reported.
