Kwara Govt Forms Committee for Minimum Wage Adjustment

The Kwara State Government has established a 21-member tripartite committee to determine the consequential adjustment for various categories of workers following the recent increase in the national minimum wage to N70,000.

This development was confirmed in a statement from the Government House on Thursday, which disclosed that Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq approved the formation of the committee. The adjustment is necessary to align the salaries of senior staff with the new minimum wage structure.

According to the statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the committee includes representatives from the state government, labor unions, and the organized private sector.

The statement read: “The tripartite committee is chaired by the Head of Service and co-chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, with the Director of Establishment and Pension serving as Secretary.

“Other members include the Commissioners for Budget and Planning, Works and Transport, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Communications; the Senior Adviser and Counselor to the Governor; Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Finance, Service Welfare, and Justice; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters.

“In addition, the committee includes representatives from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), COHESU, and the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), among others.”
