Abuja Protester Speaks Out: ‘We Were Ambushed, Shot at with Live Rounds

A protester from the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria movement in Abuja has claimed that soldiers ambushed their group on Friday as they attempted to march near the MKO Abiola National Stadium. The protester, identified as Zaye Michael, Founder of the Passion for Positive Change Initiative, made these allegations during a congress held by the protesters at the stadium on Saturday.

Michael reported that police initially engaged the protesters with teargas near the National Hospital Area. However, he alleged that police and Department of State Services (DSS) officers withdrew, creating an opportunity for soldiers to ambush the protesters. According to Michael, the soldiers then surrounded the protesters with a barrage of teargas canisters, forcing them to seek refuge in nearby bushes.

He further claimed that the protesters were trapped in the bushes for nearly four hours while the military continued to fire live ammunition. The situation reportedly left many in a state of fear and confusion.

Additional details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
