NYSC to Reject HND Graduates Lacking Mandatory One-Year Industrial Training

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that graduates of polytechnics and monotechnics who fail to complete the mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) will be ineligible for national service.

Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Coordinator for Lagos State, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos. According to Baderinwa, the NYSC has issued a circular to formalize this directive.

“It has come to our attention that some graduates from polytechnics and monotechnics have not completed the mandatory one-year IT before enrolling in Higher National Diploma (HND) programs,” Baderinwa stated. “The one-year IT is a prerequisite for HND admission. Graduates must complete this requirement, and institutions are responsible for verifying it before admitting students to HND programs.”

She further emphasized that this directive will be enforced starting from the next orientation camp. “We will not register any candidate for national service who has not fulfilled this requirement,” Baderinwa added.

The NYSC believes that this measure is essential to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s education system. Moving forward, all prospective corps members with HND qualifications will be required to present evidence of IT completion before being allowed to register at any NYSC orientation camp.

This policy is part of the NYSC’s broader efforts to ensure that the nation’s educational standards are maintained and that all graduates meet the necessary requirements for professional and academic advancement.
