Zamfara: Yankara Residents Block Major Road in Protest Against Bad Governance

Zamfara State — On August 3, 2024, residents of Yankara took to the streets to block a major road connecting Gusau to Sokoto, in a display of frustration over ongoing insecurity and economic hardship in the region. This protest comes amidst a broader nationwide hunger protest, reflecting widespread discontent across Nigeria.

The roadblock, which caused significant disruptions to traffic, was intended to draw attention to the severe security challenges and economic difficulties faced by the people of Zamfara. Protesters carried placards demanding immediate government action to address these issues. The signs highlighted urgent calls for enhanced security measures and relief for those struggling with poverty and hunger.

The demonstration underscores the growing frustration among local communities, who have long faced both escalating violence and economic strain. As the roadblock continued, it attracted both local and national media coverage, amplifying the protesters’ message and their plea for a more effective response from authorities.
