Governors Received ₦570 Billion Support Package for Nigerians’ Livelihoods – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the release of over ₦570 billion to the 36 states of Nigeria, aimed at expanding livelihood support for citizens across the nation. This financial assistance is part of the administration’s broader efforts to address economic challenges and improve the standard of living.

In a nationwide address delivered on Sunday, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering the youth through various initiatives, including the introduction of student loans and other youth-centric policies. He urged young Nigerians to resist any attempts to manipulate them into opposing the government, emphasizing that these efforts are designed to secure their future.

The address comes amid widespread protests, particularly from the youth, who have been vocal in their opposition to some of the administration’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies. Many Nigerians have called on President Tinubu to reconsider his stance, citing the increased financial burden it has placed on the populace.

During his speech, the President outlined several ongoing initiatives aimed at mitigating the economic hardships currently faced by Nigerians. Among these is the successful securing of $620 million under the Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDiCE) program. This initiative is designed to empower young Nigerians by creating millions of jobs in the IT and technical sectors, positioning them to compete on a global scale.

“These programs include the Three Million Technical Talents scheme. Unfortunately, one of the digital centers was vandalized during the protests in Kano. This is a setback for us all,” Tinubu lamented.

The President also highlighted several other initiatives under his administration, such as the Skill-Up Artisans Programme (SUPA), the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA), and the National Youth Talent Export Programme (NATEP). These programs are all geared towards equipping young Nigerians with the skills and opportunities necessary for economic independence.

“Additionally, more than ₦570 billion has been disbursed to the 36 states to enhance livelihood support for their citizens. This funding has also facilitated the growth of 600,000 nano-businesses through our nano-grants initiative, with an additional 400,000 nano-businesses expected to benefit soon,” Tinubu stated.

He further revealed that 75,000 beneficiaries have been processed to receive ₦1 million Micro and Small Business loans at single-digit interest rates, with disbursements set to begin this month. The administration has also established 10 MSME hubs over the past year, creating 240,000 jobs, with five more hubs set to be completed by October 2024.

The President’s remarks follow a statement by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, who recently called on Nigerians to hold their state governors accountable for the increased revenue allocations they have been receiving from the federal government.

“Instead of just focusing on the federal government, let the people hold every state governor responsible. What are you doing with the improved revenue you are getting? Every state governor needs to come forward and show what they have accomplished,” Governor Sule said during an interview last week.

As the nation grapples with economic challenges, President Tinubu’s address seeks to reassure Nigerians of his administration’s dedication to fostering growth and providing tangible support across the country.
