BREAKING: Police Use Force to Disperse Abuja Protest, Arrest Three

On Monday, police officers used tear gas to disperse demonstrators in the Karu neighborhood of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). As the protesters began to gather, three individuals were arrested by security personnel.

Yahaya Abdullahi, one of the protesters, told a correspondent from *Punch* that the security forces had deployed tear gas against them. He stated, “Our people were just coming out when the police and other security agents started tear-gassing us and arrested some of our people; we know of three so far.”

According to reports, Michael Lenin, a leader of the ongoing “End Bad Governance” rallies in the FCT, was also detained by agents of the Department of State Services (DSS). Lenin was reportedly taken from his home in the Apo neighborhood of Abuja around 2 a.m. on Monday.

Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilization for the Take It Back Movement, informed *Punch* that the DSS had raided Lenin’s home and subjected him to physical abuse during the arrest. “Lenin has been arrested by the DSS. He was picked up during a raid on his house around 2 a.m.,” Adenola said. “He was arrested and tortured in the presence of his family. We are demanding his immediate and unconditional release.”
