FG Monitors Diaspora Sponsors of Protesters, Adds Them to Watchlist

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced that sponsors of protests calling for an undemocratic change of government are now on its watchlist. This was revealed by the Comptroller General of NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, during a joint press conference with service chiefs and heads of security agencies at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, August 6.

Nandap stated, “We have identified diaspora sponsors, and they are now watchlisted. Any attempt by these individuals to enter the country will be flagged, and they will be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate authorities.”

In response to the protests, the NIS has increased the deployment of officers to land borders and airports to ensure tighter control of entry points. The Service has also heightened surveillance to prevent foreign interference in the country.

Additionally, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, disclosed that the agency has uncovered several sponsors of these activities. However, he refrained from providing further details. Represented by the DSS Spokesman, Peter Afunanya, Bichi revealed that some accounts linked to these sponsors have been blocked. He added that many of the individuals behind these accounts are based abroad and are under close monitoring.
