FG Launches Registration Form for ₦40,000 Rice Scheme for Workers

The Federal Government has announced a plan to sell 50kg bags of rice to public servants at a subsidized price of ₦40,000, as part of its efforts to mitigate the ongoing food crisis in the country. The initiative is aimed at providing some relief to Nigerians struggling with the rising cost of living.

This development was communicated in a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, signed by the Director of Human Resources, Jaiyesimi Abimbola. According to the letter, interested public servants are required to complete a registration process via a Google form available on the website of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF). Once completed, the form must be submitted to the Director of Human Resources for approval.

The letter further outlined the process for payment and distribution, noting that designated offices will manage these activities. To ensure transparency, the Chairman of the Joint Union Council of the Ministry will act as an observer throughout the exercise.

“As part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the current food crisis in the country and its effects on the general population, I am directed to inform you that 50kg bags of rice will be sold at a subsidized rate of ₦40,000 per bag to interested public servants in Abuja,” the letter stated.

It also emphasized that each staff member is entitled to purchase only one bag. However, two or more staff members may jointly purchase a bag to share among themselves.

The letter urged department and unit heads to disseminate this information to all relevant staff for their awareness and guidance.

This initiative is one of several measures introduced by the Tinubu administration to ease living conditions for citizens, as recently highlighted by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris. He noted that centers have been established across the country where Nigerians can purchase 50kg bags of rice at the subsidized rate.
