Security sources have revealed that recent protests in Northern Nigeria, where demonstrators were seen wielding Russian flags, were orchestrated by a Shi’ite Islamic group. The display of these flags has sparked widespread condemnation from President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s top security officials.
The protests, which took place across several northern states, have raised concerns over potential foreign influence and the political motives behind such demonstrations. President Tinubu has called for a thorough investigation, emphasizing that actions threatening Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability will not be tolerated.
In response to these developments, the State Security Service (SSS) has arrested several tailors in Kano, allegedly involved in the mass production of the Russian flags. These tailors, alongside their suspected sponsors, are currently being interrogated as part of a broader investigation into the protests.
Security agencies are also exploring the deeper political and social implications of the protests, with an eye on uncovering any external influences or internal motivations driving these demonstrations.
“Those flags being displayed at the protest grounds were coordinated by senior members of the Shi’ite group. We have it on good authority that they distributed the flags to the gullible youths,” a security source stated in Abuja, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We are actively pursuing those responsible and will bring them to justice. Such actions will not be tolerated in this country.”
The situation remains tense as authorities work to address the potential ramifications of these protests and ensure that no group is allowed to destabilize the nation through foreign symbols or allegiances.
