Katsina Residents Turn to Al-Qunut Prayer Amidst Worsening Hunger, Insecurity

In response to escalating hunger and insecurity, residents of Katsina gathered en masse on Tuesday for a special prayer session, seeking divine intervention to alleviate their plight.

The prayer event took place at the Katsina Arabic Teachers College playground and was heavily attended under tight security. Participants fervently prayed for an end to the persistent hardships and security challenges facing Nigeria.

During the session, attendees performed the Al-Qunut prayer—a special supplication recited during dire circumstances. The prayer, offered at a specific point while standing during regular prayers, is traditionally invoked during times of calamity.

Similar prayer sessions were held at multiple locations within Katsina, including the Filin Samji, Filin Yammawa, and Filin Canada football grounds.

Participants expressed that they had turned to prayer as a last resort, having exhausted other means to address the severe hunger and insecurity affecting their community.

The prayer gatherings coincided with nationwide efforts to seek divine intervention. Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance movement had earlier called for prayers to be held across various mosques and churches on Saturday, urging Nigerians to seek spiritual solutions to the country’s ongoing crises.
