Nigerians Continue Protests in Oyo, Rivers on Day 7 of Hunger Marches

Thousands of Nigerians took to the streets in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday morning, marking the seventh consecutive day of nationwide protests against poor governance and economic hardship.

The demonstrations, organized by the Take-It-Back Movement, drew large crowds in both cities, with protesters demanding immediate government action to address the country’s worsening economic conditions.

In Ibadan, the protesters gathered at the Agbowo-UI area, while in Port Harcourt, they marched through major streets in the city. The protests have been steadily gaining momentum, showing no signs of abating as citizens continue to express their dissatisfaction with the state of the nation.

A post by the Take-It-Back Movement on social media read: “LIVE from Agbowo-UI, IBADAN. Day 7: Port Harcourt marching against bad governance #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.”

Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, has reported that over 1,000 Nigerians who participated in these protests are currently being held in detention across the country. The organization criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for responding to peaceful protests with a crackdown rather than addressing the underlying economic issues contributing to widespread hunger and hardship.

According to Amnesty International, at least 632 protesters are being detained in Kano State, while over 109 are held in prison in Sokoto. The organization has expressed concern over the mass arrests and urged the government to adopt a more constructive approach to addressing the grievances of the protesters.
