MTN Contributes ₦1 Billion to Nigeria’s Food Support Initiative

Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria for its donation of ₦1 billion to the Federal Government’s Food Support Programme and the provision of 4,600 digital devices for distribution to schools.

Shettima highlighted MTN’s gesture as a commendable example of corporate responsibility, noting that it reflects the company’s dedication to the development of Nigeria’s economy and its efforts to alleviate hardship across the country.

“I am immensely proud of MTN’s stability and commitment to the progress of our nation,” Shettima remarked. “Despite numerous changes within the industry, you have remained steadfast and strong. On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I sincerely thank you for this generous contribution.”

The Vice President made these remarks on Friday during a courtesy visit by MTN Nigeria’s Chairman, Mr. Ernest Ndukwe, to the Presidential Villa.

Shettima assured that the donation would be efficiently managed by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment, along with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

Regarding the distribution of the 4,600 digital devices, which are pre-installed with the U-lesson application, Shettima stated that MTN would collaborate with his office to establish criteria for selecting beneficiaries and to ensure the devices are distributed to secondary schools across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The Vice President expressed confidence that MTN’s initiative would significantly support the government’s efforts to address pressing issues in the country, including meeting the educational needs of the poor and vulnerable.

He also urged other companies in Nigeria to follow MTN’s lead in Corporate Social Responsibility, affirming that the administration of President Tinubu remains committed to being pro-business, with policies that will soon yield positive results for the nation’s economy.
