Zamfara SSG Urges New 1 Brigade Commander to Intensify Anti-Bandit Efforts

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, has conveyed the state’s deep appreciation to Brigadier General S. Ahmed, the outgoing 1 Brigade Commander and Sector 1 Commander of Operation Hadarin Daji. On behalf of Governor Dauda Lawal, Nakwada thanked Brigadier General Ahmed for his unwavering dedication to the safety and security of the people of Zamfara State during his 17-month tenure.

Nakwada made these remarks on Thursday at a send-off dinner held at the 1 Brigade Officers Mess in Gusau. The event was organized to honor Brigadier General Ahmed as he completed his tour of duty in the state.

In a statement released by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Nakwada, represented by the Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Lawal Hussein, praised Brigadier General Ahmed as a “hero and a game changer” who had significantly contributed to the fight against banditry in Zamfara State.

“On behalf of the government and people of Zamfara State, I extend our deepest appreciation for the heroic efforts made by the outgoing Commander,” Nakwada stated. “Brigadier General S. Ahmed has recorded tremendous successes in the fight against banditry since his deployment to Zamfara in March of last year. As he embarks on the next chapter of his career, we wish him well in all his future endeavors.”

The SSG also welcomed Brigadier General T. M. Opurum, the newly appointed 1 Brigade Commander, urging him to intensify efforts against bandit terrorists in Zamfara State. Nakwada charged the new commander to ensure that bandits have no respite and to build on the successes of his predecessor.

In his farewell address, Brigadier General S. Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Zamfara State Government for its support and cooperation with the 1 Brigade Command. He reflected on the positive working relationship with state officials and other security agencies, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in combating the region’s security challenges.

Brigadier General Ahmed also expressed confidence in his successor, Brigadier General T. M. Opurum, who was recently transferred from Maiduguri. He expressed optimism that the new commander’s experience and track record would lead to the decisive defeat of bandits in Zamfara State. Concluding his remarks, Ahmed voiced his hope to return to Zamfara in the near future to celebrate a lasting peace in the state.
