JUST IN: Police Arrest Governorship Candidate Over Protest Against Bad Governance

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for Ondo State in the upcoming 2024 elections. Ajayi was apprehended along with Patrick Owolabi and Kolawole Kumuyi, both members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement.

Additional individuals detained include Oluwatobi Akinkuotu and Olalekan Oladehinde.

The arrests took place in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, during the grand finale of the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, which was organized to oppose hunger, hardship, and poor governance in the country.

The TIB Movement has condemned the police’s actions, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Ajayi and Owolabi. In a statement on Twitter, the movement expressed its outrage:

“It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn. The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters is a total shame. We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman & Patrick Owolabi in Ondo State and demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
