Tinubu Approves Appointment of Ango as Acting Chairman of FCT-IRS

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Michael Ango as the acting chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS). The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press at the Office of the FCT Minister.

Ango’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to broaden the revenue base of the FCT-IRS. He will be succeeding Haruna Abdullahi, who served as the acting chairman for nearly three years.

Ogunleye highlighted Ango’s extensive experience, noting that his over 20 years in both public and private sectors have been marked by a commitment to excellence and innovation in revenue collection and management.

“He is expected to leverage his wealth of experience and proven track record in revenue administration, financial management, and organizational leadership to enhance the performance of the service,” Ogunleye stated.

Ango, a native of Kebbi State, holds a Master of Law degree from Columbia University School of Law, New York (2019) and a Bachelor of Law degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2002). He also attended the Nigerian Law School in 2003 and completed the Executive Education in Comparative Tax Policy and Administration Programme at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2013. Ango is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the International Association of Privacy Professionals, among other professional bodies.

As acting chairman, Ango is expected to oversee the implementation of key strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing revenue generation and ensuring fiscal sustainability for the FCT-IRS. His appointment comes at a critical time as the agency seeks to expand its revenue base, improve taxpayer compliance, and streamline operations for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
