Armed Bandits Ambush Military Patrol in Sokoto, Kill Four Soldiers

In a brazen attack over the weekend, heavily armed bandits ambushed and killed four soldiers in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The incident took place around 4 p.m. on Saturday along the Kukurau-Bangi Road, where the soldiers were conducting a routine patrol.

The bandits, numbering approximately 20 and riding on motorcycles, launched a surprise attack on the military convoy, opening fire and overwhelming the soldiers. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants not only targeted the soldiers but also set two of their patrol vehicles ablaze, further escalating the severity of the ambush.

The violent encounter also left two soldiers injured, who were later evacuated for medical treatment. The identities of the deceased and injured soldiers have not yet been released, as the military is still notifying their families.

Yahaya Gudu, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Gudu Constituency, confirmed the attack and expressed deep concern over the increasing insecurity in the region. He revealed that Governor Ahmed Aliyu was immediately informed of the incident and responded by dispatching additional security forces to the area in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further violence.

The ambush highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions, where banditry, kidnappings, and other forms of violent crime have become rampant. Despite numerous military operations and government efforts to restore peace, these regions continue to experience frequent attacks, leaving communities in a state of fear and uncertainty.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces as they work to address the escalating threats posed by these criminal elements. The Sokoto State government has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, vowing to intensify efforts to combat banditry and restore peace to the troubled areas.
