FG Sets 8-Week Deadline for National Housing Programme Allottees to Make Payments

The federal government has issued an eight-week ultimatum to the first batch of allottees under the National Housing Programme (NHP) to complete their payments or risk losing their allocations.

This directive was announced by Marcus Ogunbiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, in a statement released on Monday.

Ogunbiyi emphasized that allottees who fail to meet the payment deadline will have their allocations revoked. He recalled that the first batch of provisional allocations under the NHP was issued in April following a review of the sales conditions and procedures. The details of these changes were communicated to the allottees in a circular dated December 29, 2023, with the reference number DPBH/645/1/43.

“While a number of outright payment subscribers have completed their payments, others have only made partial deposits and are yet to finalize their payments,” Ogunbiyi stated. “The ministry is granting a grace period of eight weeks for these subscribers to complete their payments. Failure to do so within this timeframe will result in the revocation of their allocations.”

Ogunbiyi also reminded subscribers that the initial deadline for completing all payments was 90 days.

The ministry has received a total of 8,925 applications for the NHP, comprising 1,294 outright payments, 2,408 mortgage applications, and 2,184 rent-to-own requests.
