Katsina Experiences Fuel Price Shock as Petrol Stations Hike Rates by ₦60

Fuel stations across Katsina’s metropolitan areas have raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by ₦60, sparking concerns among residents.

At the NNPC mega stations, fuel is now being sold at ₦665 per liter, while other commercial stations, which previously charged ₦830 per liter, have increased their price to ₦900. The price hike has led to a surge in demand at government-approved NNPC stations, with many private stations remaining closed.

Motorists in the area have expressed their frustration over the situation. Jamilu Ahmed, one of the affected residents, noted the lack of alternatives despite the absence of long queues. “If not for the price difference, I wouldn’t be here. The pumps are no different from those at private stations,” Ahmed remarked.

Another motorist, Suade Malik, echoed similar sentiments, lamenting the inconvenience caused by the price increase. “I have things to do, but I had to queue for fuel. The station I usually patronize has raised its price from ₦830 to ₦900. In today’s Nigeria, you have to plan ahead,” Malik said.

Malik further highlighted the savings he achieved by opting for the NNPC station. “At ₦665 per liter, I saved ₦235 per liter. With my car’s 60-liter tank, that’s a total savings of ₦14,100,” he explained.

The situation underscores the growing financial strain on Nigerians as they grapple with rising costs.
