Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared his unwavering commitment to supporting former President Goodluck Jonathan should he decide to run in the 2027 presidential election.
As the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Governor Mohammed emphasized his loyalty to Jonathan, expressing his willingness to fully back the former president if he is persuaded to enter the race.
“Regarding calls for me to present myself, I am still considering my options as a leader within the opposition. However, I have always maintained that as long as Goodluck Jonathan remains in the picture, I will not seek the presidency unless he opts out. If we can convince him to run, I will support him wholeheartedly,” Governor Mohammed stated during a response to a group urging him to run for president in 2027.
Highlighting Jonathan’s tenure as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, Governor Mohammed cited Jonathan’s experience and inclusive economic reforms as key reasons for his endorsement. He expressed confidence that Jonathan would outperform the current administration if elected.
“He will do a better job because he has the experience. We are all aware of the current inflation and the rising cost of living. Under Jonathan’s regime, he was inclusive, tackling issues like the Almajiri system and launching initiatives for unemployed youths,” the governor explained. “His leadership style was exemplary, particularly in recruiting young leaders with energy, foresight, and drive. We need leaders like him.”
Despite Governor Mohammed’s glowing endorsement, Jonathan’s presidency was marred by widespread criticism, with many labeling his government as corrupt and ineffective.
