Gov. Yusuf Partners with Qatar Charity to Address Social Challenges in Kano

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is seeking collaboration with Qatar Charity to bolster ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing critical social issues in the state, particularly in the areas of water provision, housing, education, and women’s empowerment. The appeal was made during Governor Yusuf’s official visit to Qatar Charity’s office in Abuja.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of partnership to expand Kano’s clean water initiatives. He noted that solar-powered boreholes have already been installed, with further plans underway to alleviate water scarcity in various communities across the state. However, he stressed that additional support is essential to fully resolve the water challenges affecting many residents.

The Kano State government is also seeking Qatar Charity’s assistance in constructing housing units on government-provided land, aiming to offer secure and dignified living conditions for vulnerable groups, including orphans and other socially excluded individuals. The governor proposed the development of a multipurpose community center within these housing areas, which would serve as a hub for educational, vocational, and social activities.

Governor Yusuf also appealed for support in providing scholarships to vulnerable students, ensuring their access to quality education.

The governor acknowledged Qatar Charity’s significant contributions to various initiatives across Nigeria, including orphan sponsorship, eye care projects, and the construction of mosques and water facilities.

In response, Elsayed Mohamed Abdou Hamdi, the Country Director of Qatar Charity, commended Governor Yusuf for his proactive approach in visiting their office to benefit the people of Kano. He expressed gratitude to the governor for creating an enabling environment that contrasts with the previous administration, and assured that Qatar Charity would extend all necessary support to ensure the people of Kano fully benefit from their efforts.
