Lagos Residents Receive 20,000 Food Boxes in Govt’s Welfare Initiative

The Lagos State Government has commenced the distribution of 20,000 food boxes to religious organizations as part of its efforts to alleviate the impact of economic hardship on residents.

The distribution, which began on Wednesday at the Lagos State Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, was announced by Abdullahi Jebe, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Islamic Affairs.

Jebe noted that the initiative is part of the governor’s broader strategy to provide palliative support to various sections of society. He mentioned that organizations such as Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs) have also benefited from these distributions.

The food distribution is being organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs on behalf of the government. Each food box contains 10 kilograms of rice, 5 kilograms of beans, and 5 kilograms of cassava flakes (garri).

“These food boxes are currently being distributed to Muslim communities, while 10,000 additional bags will be allocated to Christian organizations,” Jebe stated. “We are starting the distribution today, which was delayed due to recent protests.”

Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for this initiative, describing it as a vital intervention for supporting the less privileged in society. She emphasized that the distribution was taking place at a centralized location for efficiency.

“This palliative measure cuts across all sectors of the state,” Ogunsanya added. “The Governor’s Advisory Council was established specifically to oversee this initiative.”

Adebukola Adeleke, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Affairs, also confirmed that the distribution of 10,000 bags of “Ounje Eko” had begun for Christian organizations and groups across the state’s 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.
