Bauchi LG Elections: Sub-regional Ambassadors Lambasts Bauchi Govt

A political pressure group, the North East Youth Ambassadors (NEYA) have condemned in totality the sudden and hurried swearing-in of the appointed Bauchi state local government chairmen and councillors.

This hypocrite action of the Bauchi state government, according to the ambassadors, is a clear attempt to preempt any potential legal or legislative action by Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who has been a vocal advocate for free, fair and credible elections.

“We are appalled by the sudden and hurried swearing-in ceremony of the appointed, not elected, local government chairman and councilors, scheduled for this Sunday” group faulted the government’s inyrodoness.

The ambassadors in a press statement in Bauchi Sunday explained that the sworn-in chairmen and councillors were purportedly elected, but were appointed by the tyrannical Kauran Bauchi-led administration to satisfy its whims and caprises.

The group zonal chairman, Haruna Mohammed observed that the action of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed regarding elections into the local government councils was in tandem with the provisions of Electoral Act, 2022; Nigerian Construction (as amended), and verdict of the Supreme Court ruling on Local Government autonomy.

“It appears that the Bauchi state government is afraid of Senator Buba’s influence and his ability to mobilize opposition to this electoral fraud. By rushing to swear in the appointed officials, they hope to present a fait accompli and prevent any efforts to correct the democratic process”.

The sub-regional ambassadors therefore condemned what they described as a ‘cynical move’, and called on the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the electoral irregularities and ensure that the people’s voices are heard.
