A chemist operator in Jaba, Fanisau area of Kano State has been accused of raping a 9-year-old girl, Rumaisa Sadiq, who later died from the assault. The incident occurred when Rumaisa’s father took her to the chemist for malaria treatment.
The Kano State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Disabled and Children, Hajia Aisha Saji, condemned the act and vowed to ensure justice for the deceased. Despite attempts to divert the case, the Commissioner assured that the state government, led by Governor Abba Yusuf, will follow up the case to a logical conclusion.
Hajia Saji visited the family of the deceased and offered condolences, stating that “there must be justice for the little girl who lost her life due to someone’s animalistic instinct.” She emphasized the need for swift and full dispensation of justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
The Commissioner also offered assistance to the family, including food items and other support. The case is already before a court of law and has attracted concerns from human rights organizations.
The Founder of Hidaya Ahmad VVF Aid Foundation, Hajiya Nafisa Salisu Ahmad, who reported the incident to the Commissioner, thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Hajia Aisha Lawan Saji Rano for their efforts in fighting against injustice and inhumanity.
Rumaisa’s father, Alhaji Sadiq, expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s efforts and the Governor’s concerns, praying for their protection. The bereaved mother, still recovering from the shock, thanked both the Governor and the Commissioner for their support and assurance of justice.”
