Kaduna Warns 7 LGs of Impending Floods, Urges Immediate Relocation

The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) has issued a warning to residents in seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) who are at risk of flooding, particularly those living near waterways. The agency is urging these communities to relocate to safer, higher ground as the peak of the rainy season approaches.

In a statement released on Monday, the Executive Secretary of KADSEMA, Dr. Usman Mazadu, highlighted the urgent need for residents to take precautionary measures due to the continuous torrential rainfall experienced in recent days.

Dr. Mazadu emphasized that the persistent heavy rain could lead to rivers overflowing, particularly in LGAs where rivers or tributaries flow through the communities. He advised residents in these areas to remain vigilant and prepare to evacuate to higher and safer locations.

“It is crucial for communities within these areas to be on high alert for potential flooding. They must be prepared to evacuate to safer grounds immediately,” Mazadu stated.

The affected communities include:

  • Kaduna North LGA: Government Secondary School Abubakar Kigo Road and LEA Primary School Unguwan Rimi.
  • Kaduna South LGA: Namadi Sambo Skill Acquisition Centre T/Wada Kaduna and LEA Primary School Nassarawa.
  • Chikun LGA: Government Secondary School Romi and Government Secondary School Narayi.
  • Igabi LGA: Jumaat Mosque Hayin Malam Bello.
  • Sanga LGA: LEA Agwom Primary School, LEA Tsauni Primary School, and LEA Sanga Village Primary School.
  • Kagarko LGA: LEA Jere North Primary School and LEA Jere South Primary School.
  • Jema’a LGA: Government Secondary School Kafanchan.

KADSEMA is urging residents in these communities to act swiftly to avoid potential disaster.
