Kumuyi Urges Harmony, Compassion Between Christians, Muslims

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has called for love, unity, and mutual respect between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria. Speaking on Monday night in Port Harcourt during a Global Conference organized by Change Makers International (CMI), Kumuyi emphasized the importance of living harmoniously, regardless of religious differences.

The conference, themed “Driving Positive Change and Social Impact,” aimed to inspire attendees to become agents of transformation within the country. Kumuyi, who is also the Founder and Convener of CMI, delivered a speech titled “The Call and the Commission of a Change Maker,” where he outlined the duties and responsibilities of those seeking to create positive change, drawing from biblical references, including Luke 10:39.

In his address, Kumuyi stressed the commandment to love one’s neighbor, highlighting that this applies not only to those who share the same faith but to all people, including Christians and Muslims. He urged the faithful to lift each other up, assist those in need, and show compassion in practical ways.

“How can we claim to love God if we do not care for our neighbors?” Kumuyi asked, emphasizing that Christians and Muslims alike are neighbors, created by God and sharing the same humanity. He called on both groups to foster a sense of belonging and mutual support.

Kumuyi encouraged the audience to take tangible actions, such as helping to pay for a neighbor’s child’s school fees or offering assistance to those in pain or crisis. He urged them to reflect on what they would want others to do for them if they were in similar situations and to act accordingly.

“Gather your neighbors, and while engaging with them, provide for their needs—feed them if you can—before sharing the gospel,” Kumuyi advised, stressing the importance of addressing physical needs alongside spiritual outreach. He drew from various scriptural passages to underscore the message of compassion, service, and righteousness.

Kumuyi concluded by reminding Nigerians to see beyond religious and tribal differences, urging them to follow the example of Jesus Christ in doing good to all. He called for a spirit of service, innovation, and upliftment, encouraging everyone to be doers of the word, not just hearers.

“Let our lives be attractive to others,” Kumuyi said, “as we strive to lift people up and make a lasting change in our society.”
