The Federal Government has announced an increase in the fees for obtaining a Nigerian passport, which will take effect from September 1, 2024.
This change was confirmed by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) spokesperson, DCI Kenneth Udo, in a statement released on Wednesday. The adjustment is part of efforts to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
According to the new fee structure, a 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity will now cost ₦50,000, up from the previous ₦35,000. Similarly, the fee for a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity has been raised from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.
Udo clarified that the fees for passports issued to Nigerians living abroad remain unchanged.
While acknowledging the potential inconvenience this increase may cause applicants, the NIS assured the public of its continued commitment to transparency and high-quality service delivery.
