Ex-Gov Yari Donates 15 Truckloads of Grains, Relief Items to Zamfara Flood Victims

Senator Abdulaziz Yari, representing Zamfara West in the Senate under the All Progressives Congress, on Wednesday, provided critical relief to flood victims in Gummi Local Government Area, Zamfara State. The former governor donated 15 trucks of assorted grains to those affected by the recent flooding.

The announcement was made during Yari’s sympathy visit to the Emir of Gummi Emirate, Justice Lawal Hassan (retd). In addition to the grain donation, Yari contributed 5,000 mattresses and 10,000 blankets to aid the displaced residents.

The devastating floods, triggered by 14 hours of torrential rainfall last Friday, wreaked havoc in Gayari, Falale, and Gummi towns, among others. The disaster resulted in the destruction of 2,795 houses, the loss of 16 lives, and the submergence of countless hectares of farmland.

Expressing his deep concern, Yari stated, “These relief materials are an emergency response to alleviate the hardship faced by those affected. An assessment committee is already in place to gather data on the extent of the damage and to investigate the causes of this disaster, so we can take measures to prevent a recurrence.”

Yari assured the community that once the assessment is completed, efforts to rebuild the affected areas would commence. He emphasized that the rebuilding plan would mandate the use of modern construction materials, with no structures allowed to be rebuilt using mud. “Adequate modern building materials and skilled engineers will be provided to ensure that the people have safe and durable homes,” he added.

The senator also called on the victims to remain steadfast in their faith and to pray for peace.

Emir Hassan, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to Senator Yari for his timely intervention and concern during this difficult period. He urged the affected communities to cooperate fully with the assessment committee to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the damages.
