Zamfara Govt Renovates 350 Schools Despite Security Challenges

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has announced the renovation of 350 schools across the state, despite significant security challenges.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Governor Lawal discussed his administration’s focus on infrastructure development and the steps being taken to address the pervasive insecurity in the region.

“We’re just barely one year in office, but I can tell you, the narrative is changing for the better,” the governor said. “Currently, over 350 schools across the state are being renovated and rebuilt, and we’re also focused on capacity building.”

Governor Lawal emphasized that Zamfara has long struggled with inadequate infrastructure, but his administration is making strides to improve essential services. “We have the least in terms of infrastructure, but we are doing everything possible to ensure we have adequate roads, water supply, and other critical amenities. It’s an ongoing process.”

Addressing the state’s security challenges, Governor Lawal acknowledged the longstanding nature of the crisis. “The issue of insecurity is something we inherited; it has plagued the region for over a decade, and it’s not a problem that can be resolved overnight,” he noted.

The governor highlighted efforts to combat insecurity, mentioning the establishment of the Community Protection Guard last year. “We are making a conscious effort to confront these security challenges head-on. The Community Protection Guard is working closely with the Convention on Security to tackle banditry and other criminal activities in the state, and we’ve seen a significant reduction in these incidents,” he stated.
