The Kano State government has finalized plans to regulate and support traditional medicine practitioners through a series of initiatives, including training programs, partnerships with healthcare institutions, and the establishment of a regulatory board.
Governor Abba Yusuf made this announcement while inaugurating the Kano State Task Force Committee on Immunisation. He acknowledged the significant contributions of traditional medicine practitioners to the state’s healthcare sector and emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services through collaboration between traditional and modern medical practices.
Governor Yusuf outlined plans to provide traditional medicine vendors with training and foster partnerships with healthcare institutions. Additionally, a regulatory board will be created to oversee the practice of traditional medicine in the state. These measures aim to modernize traditional practices, improve their safety and effectiveness, and better integrate them into Kano’s healthcare system.
During the committee’s inauguration, the national president of the traditional medicine association, Shaba Maikudi, expressed his appreciation for the governor’s efforts to rejuvenate the healthcare sector. He commended the governor for his focus on traditional medicine and the resources provided to practitioners, which have enhanced their ability to serve the community.
Mr. Maikudi also called on the governor to further solidify the integration of traditional medicine into the state’s healthcare system by establishing a dedicated traditional medicine board.
