Federal Lawmaker Attacked by Youths for Allegedly Abandoning Constituency

On Sunday, Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga, the Member representing Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, narrowly escaped being mobbed by irate youths in Ningi. The attack occurred during his visit to mourn and attend the funeral of the late Emir of Ningi, Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya, who was buried the same day.

Ranga, who was elected in 2023 under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has faced growing dissatisfaction from his constituents. Many accuse him of abandoning his responsibilities by relocating to Abuja after his election, leading to frustration among the community.

The incident took place at the Emir’s Palace, where the lawmaker had participated in the funeral prayer. As he was leaving around 5:42 p.m., a group of youths began chanting “Ba mu yi, ba mu yi” (translated as “We are not in support”) in Hausa, while hurling sand and stones at him. Despite efforts to calm the situation, the attack escalated, causing significant damage to his vehicle, with its windows and rear mirrors shattered.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and unfortunate. One witness recounted, “I was deeply saddened by the Emir’s demise, only to witness youths attacking our representative’s car.” Another added that the youths had strategically positioned themselves near Ranga’s vehicle, waiting to ambush him as he exited the palace.

Security operatives and others present intervened, allowing the lawmaker to enter his car and escape the scene. Attempts to contact Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile phone were redirected, and messages sent via SMS and WhatsApp went unanswered.
