Kano Gov Requests Additional ₦99 Billion Supplementary Budget Approval

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has formally requested the State House of Assembly to approve a supplementary budget of ₦99 billion for 2024. The governor’s request was presented in a letter read by Speaker Ismail Falgore during a plenary session on Tuesday.

The governor’s proposal, as outlined in the letter, seeks approval under sections 122(A and B) of the 1999 Constitution. Governor Yusuf emphasized that the additional funds are crucial for accelerating and executing priority projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of Kano State citizens.

Speaker Falgore detailed the allocation of the supplementary budget: ₦33 billion is designated for personnel costs, ₦34 billion for overhead costs, and ₦30 billion for capital expenditure.

Following the presentation, the state Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, briefed the press, highlighting the financial implications of the governor’s request. “The initial 2024 budget for the state was ₦437.3 billion. If the supplementary budget is approved, it will increase the total budget to ₦536.6 billion,” Shanono explained.

He further noted that part of the supplementary budget would be allocated to cover the new minimum wage agreed upon between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Federal Government. Shanono reiterated the government’s commitment to focusing on infrastructure, human capital development, and improvements in the health and education sectors, ensuring that the additional funds are utilized effectively to benefit the state’s citizens.
