Insecurity: Religious Leaders Warn Tinubu of Grave Danger in Nigeria

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity across the country, urging the government to take immediate action.

In a statement issued by NIREC, the group, led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Sultan Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar, President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, highlighted the urgent need to address the deteriorating security situation.

NIREC cited several recent incidents that underscore the gravity of the situation. These include the killing of 13 farmers in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, the abduction of 150 people in Gobir District, and the brutal murder of the district head of Gatawa, both in Sokoto State. Additionally, the council referenced the foiled bandit attacks in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State as further evidence of the growing threat to public safety.

“The frequency and severity of these incidents are alarming. We call on the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts to eliminate these threats and restore safety across the country,” the statement read.

NIREC extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in these attacks and prayed for the safe return of those still in captivity. The council also urged all Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, stressing that ensuring security is a shared responsibility.

Established in 1999, NIREC is dedicated to promoting religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and good governance in Nigeria. The council remains committed to addressing the nation’s security challenges through dialogue and concerted action.
