Party Chieftain Describes Wike as PDP’s Biggest Challenge

Chief Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has identified Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the party’s most significant challenge.

Despite being a PDP stalwart, Wike currently serves in the administration of President Bola Tinubu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has fueled tensions within the PDP.

In an interview with New Telegraph, Sowunmi remarked, “The most pressing issue in our party today is the presence of Nyesom Wike. He is the biggest ‘elephant in the room,’ creating a major divide within our ranks.”

Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, continues to be seen as a member of the PDP by the public. However, Sowunmi questioned Wike’s loyalty, stating, “Even if he claims to be a PDP member, is his spirit, body, and soul truly aligned with the party?”

Sowunmi also addressed concerns regarding the unprecedented nature of Wike’s situation. He referenced the late Chief Bola Ige, who served in the PDP-led government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo while still being a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). “There is historical precedent for such scenarios, but just because it happened before doesn’t mean we should accept it as the norm,” he said.

He emphasized the need for action, noting that the party’s disciplinary committee is in place to address any infractions. “Anyone with substantial evidence of wrongdoing should bring it forward to the disciplinary committee, and we will proceed accordingly,” Sowunmi concluded.
