Wike Will Be Left Politically Isolated, Tinubu Will Also Lose – Lamido Asserts

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has predicted a grim political future for both the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu. Lamido, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed doubts about the sustainability of Wike’s current political trajectory, suggesting that Wike will soon find himself isolated and politically abandoned by President Tinubu.

In a recent interview with The Tribune, Lamido reflected on the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP and Wike’s alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He attributed the PDP’s current troubles to the party’s failure to build on the stability it once enjoyed while in power. According to Lamido, the party’s internal discord is a consequence of its leaders’ inability to maintain the unity and confidence that had been established in the aftermath of the June 12, 1993, presidential election annulment.

Lamido dismissed the notion that Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State and a prominent PDP figure, has significant political leverage. He downplayed Wike’s influence, stating that Wike is merely a creation of the PDP, and if President Tinubu ceases to support him, Wike would be politically irrelevant. He accused Wike of exploiting the current political environment to his advantage and warned that the alliance between Wike and Tinubu is doomed to fail, as it is rooted in what he termed as political expediency rather than national interest.

Lamido also refuted claims that Wike was planted within the PDP to undermine the party from within. He insisted that Wike’s rise in politics was purely a product of his association with the PDP and not a scheme orchestrated by external forces like Tinubu. However, Lamido predicted that the current arrangement between Wike and Tinubu would ultimately lead to the downfall of both politicians, as it lacks moral and national integrity.

Regarding the future of the PDP and its chances in the 2027 elections, Lamido dismissed any notion of Tinubu being unbeatable. He likened Tinubu’s dominance to a domestic cat preying on small chickens, suggesting that just as the mother hen eventually stood up to the cat, so too will the PDP and the Nigerian people challenge Tinubu’s grip on power. Lamido warned that Tinubu’s current approach to governance, which he described as manipulative and self-serving, will eventually lead to his downfall, as it is not in the best interest of Nigeria’s development.
