Zamfara Gov Donates ₦100 Million, Grains to Flood-Affected Communities

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has extended significant support to the victims of the recent flood in Gummi Local Government Area, donating ₦100 million and 10,000 bags of assorted grains to aid in their recovery. The governor made the announcement during a visit to the area on Saturday to personally sympathize with those affected.

“I am pleased to announce the donation of ₦100 million and 10,000 bags of rice and maize to the victims,” Governor Lawal stated during his visit.

Before addressing the flood victims, Governor Lawal paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Gummi, Lawal Hassan, to express his sympathy over the devastating incident. He also visited the Gayari community on the outskirts of Gummi town, where he conveyed his condolences to the displaced residents.

In his remarks to the victims, the governor expressed deep concern over the impact of the flood. “It is distressing to see how many of our people have been rendered homeless by this disaster,” he said. Governor Lawal also noted that, immediately after the flood, he dispatched a committee led by Salisu Maibuhu to assess the extent of the damage and sent his deputy to offer initial sympathies to the affected community.

He urged the residents of Gummi to remain patient and consider the disaster as an act of God. As part of the state government’s long-term response, Governor Lawal promised to allocate land to those displaced so they can rebuild their homes. Additionally, he committed to constructing new drainage systems in the area to prevent similar disasters in the future.

Aminu Nuhu, the Sole Administrator of Gummi Local Government Council, praised the governor’s visit and support, highlighting the importance of the state’s intervention at this critical time.

According to Ahmed Bala, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), the flood has affected 9,784 households across all 12 political wards in the area. The disaster claimed 12 lives and destroyed hundreds of hectares of farmland, exacerbating the challenges faced by the local communities.
