The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over allegations of anti-party activities.
This development was announced by the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday. Abdullahi disclosed that Wike has been formally summoned to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee, which is chaired by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi.
“Three weeks ago, we established two key committees—one for reconciliation and another for disciplinary matters. Nyesom Wike is among those slated to face the disciplinary committee, which is tasked with investigating allegations of anti-party activities,” Abdullahi stated.
He noted that the committee has been receiving numerous petitions accusing Wike and other party members of actions detrimental to the PDP, particularly during the primary elections and subsequent events. These complaints have been consolidated and forwarded to the disciplinary body for review.
“Some members of the party believe that Wike should not have remained in the PDP given his recent conduct, and they have formally communicated these concerns to the party leadership,” Abdullahi added.
He also criticized Wike for recent comments made against PDP governors, particularly his remarks about “putting fire in their states,” which Abdullahi described as unacceptable and disappointing.
“Wike should exercise greater caution with his words. His recent statements were unexpected and frankly disappointing. We do not support his position on this matter,” Abdullahi emphasized.
This announcement comes just two days after Wike publicly expressed satisfaction with his role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, despite ongoing criticism and his recent threats against PDP governors who support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike warned that he would instigate a political crisis in the states of any PDP governor who attempts to interfere in the party’s affairs in the South-South region. He also controversially remarked that anyone displeased with his role in Tinubu’s government “should go and hug a transformer.”
