Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has unveiled the first sample of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, produced by his refinery. The presentation took place on Tuesday at the refinery’s location in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
The 650,000-barrel-per-day capacity refinery is currently in the test-run phase, with the aim of commencing full operations soon.
In his remarks, Dangote expressed gratitude to the people of Nigeria and acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in creating a conducive environment for economic growth and development. He specifically praised the government’s initiative of trading Naira for crude oil, which he believes will contribute to stabilizing the Nigerian currency.
“I would like to salute the people of Nigeria and the government of President Bola Tinubu for giving us the platform for growth, development, and prosperity. I also want to thank him personally for creating the idea of the Naira for crude. Doing that will give Naira stability,” Dangote stated.
He further emphasized that the refinery is poised to meet the energy demands not only of Nigeria but also of the broader sub-Saharan African region.
