KADCHMA: Kaduna Pensioners to Benefit from New Health Insurance Scheme

The Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KADCHMA) and the Kaduna chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide health insurance for pensioners in the state.

At the signing ceremony held on Monday in Kaduna, KADCHMA Director-General Abubakar Hassan emphasized the significant benefits that the new health insurance scheme offers to pensioners. He explained that with the scheme, pensioners can access healthcare services at any public or private health facility within the state without worrying about out-of-pocket expenses.

“This initiative ensures that pensioners receive the care they need without the financial stress typically associated with accessing healthcare services,” Mr. Hassan stated.

He revealed that the annual premium for the health insurance scheme is set at an affordable rate of N10,600, making it accessible for pensioners. Mr. Hassan expressed gratitude to Kaduna’s pension bureau and the state chapter of the NUP for their support and urged other organizations, associations, and bodies to enroll their members in the scheme.

NUP Kaduna Chapter Chairman, Aboman Ladan, hailed the MoU as a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to secure quality healthcare for pensioners without the burden of financial strain. He praised KADCHMA for its dedication to making healthcare both affordable and accessible and encouraged NUP members to take full advantage of the health insurance program.

By enrolling, he added, pensioners would be able to lead healthy, fulfilling lives, free from the constant worry of medical expenses.

National NUP representative, Ahmed Garzali, highlighted the particular vulnerability of pensioners, especially in light of recent economic challenges like the removal of fuel subsidies. He described the health insurance initiative as a crucial step in alleviating the financial burden of healthcare on pensioners and called for the sincere implementation of the MoU.

Earlier, Health Commissioner Umma Ahmed described the collaboration between KADCHMA and the NUP as a monumental achievement in the state government’s efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of its pensioners.
