Northern Governors Pledge Unified Effort to Combat Insecurity

The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, has reaffirmed the commitment of northern governors to addressing the growing insecurity in the region.

Speaking on Monday in Gombe after receiving a comprehensive report from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Yahaya emphasized the urgency of tackling the insecurity that has severely impacted the livelihoods of millions across Northern Nigeria. The report, compiled by the Coalition’s Experts’ Committee on Insecurity, offers strategic recommendations for addressing these challenges.

Yahaya expressed the collective resolve of the governors to partner with key stakeholders to develop effective solutions. He announced plans to convene a broad-based meeting that will include past and present leaders, traditional rulers, security chiefs, and civil society organizations. The goal of the meeting, he stated, is to discuss and implement strategies aimed at restoring lasting peace in the region.

“This time, we are committed to a collective approach to addressing the insecurity issue,” Yahaya said. “The report from the CNG is timely, and we intend to study it closely and work together towards its implementation. We are currently planning an expanded meeting with all critical stakeholders in the region to explore comprehensive solutions that will genuinely address these problems.”

Yahaya also praised the CNG leadership for producing a thorough report that analyzed various strategies for tackling the region’s security challenges.

Earlier, Bashir Ibrahim, Chairman of the Committee of Experts on Security for the CNG, highlighted the need for an “all-society” approach to combat insecurity. He stressed that no one should remain a bystander, as insecurity affects everyone.

“One of the key strategies in our report is the all-society approach, where every citizen is a stakeholder in the fight against insecurity. Insecurity spares no one, and our strategy ensures that everyone has a role in bringing about solutions,” Ibrahim said.

The commitment from the northern governors and the strategic recommendations from the CNG offer a hopeful step towards addressing the insecurity that has plagued the region for years.
