Clark Urges IGP to Arrest Wike, Accuses Him of Treason

Former Federal Commissioner for Information and prominent South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to urgently arrest and prosecute the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a letter addressed to the IGP and read during a press briefing at his Asokoro residence on Thursday, Clark urged Egbetokun to take action against Wike for allegedly making incendiary remarks aimed at People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors.

Wike, during a speech at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, threatened to destabilize the states governed by PDP leaders who attempted to interfere in the party’s affairs in Rivers State.

“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. I hear some governors say they will take over the structure and give it back to someone. I pity those governors because I will set fire in their states. When God has given you peace, and you say you don’t want it, then anything you see, you take,” Wike warned.

At the press briefing, Clark expressed outrage, calling Wike’s comments a “flagrant disrespect” to President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him as FCT Minister. He described the statements as “unbridled” and said they amounted to treason, with the potential to incite violence in the country.

Clark further referenced the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, and protesters of the #EndBadGovernance movement for similar offenses. He urged the IGP to hold Wike to the same standard, demanding that the minister retract his statements.
