The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to address issues preventing polytechnic graduates from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Led by its president, Mr. Ridwan Opeyemi, a NAPS delegation visited JAMB headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, on Friday to raise concerns over the exclusion of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from NYSC mobilization.
Opeyemi expressed frustration that many HND graduates from various polytechnics, despite completing their JAMB regularization process, had not been mobilized for the mandatory service program.
“The Registrar took his time to discuss with us, and we now understand that the issue primarily originates from our various institutions,” Opeyemi said, emphasizing the need for JAMB’s assistance in resolving the matter.
In response, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, clarified that the board is not involved in the admission of HND students and therefore lacks the necessary data to facilitate their participation in the NYSC scheme.
“Our responsibility ends at the admission process for National Diploma (ND) students. We do not have records of HND students,” Oloyede explained.
He urged the NAPS team to review the admissions guidelines and consult with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for potential solutions.
